While it's not exactly NEW news that Stephen Colbert is running for President, it is noteworthy that he visited Cornell this weekend.
He's running as a Democrat AND Republican (I wonder if he's the first to ever do that). And as he said in his speech at Cornell on Friday night, he wants to get all the people who don't vote (the 18-24 year old age range) and get them to vote for him. I think his slogan (he joked) is: "Don't waste your vote, waste it on me."
By the way, he has a Facebook group called "1,000,000 strong for Stephen T. Colbert." I haven't checked it lately, but I'm pretty positive that there are at least 1,000,000 voting teens who have joined that group--and possibly more.
Personally, I think that if he does get his name on the ballot, I wouldn't vote for him. Because he doesn't really have a stand on most issues--or he does, but it's sometimes hard to tell from the Colbert TV guy from the Colbert running for President, so his ideals and hopes for America end up into a joke. Which is cool, cause he is funny, but not very good if you want to have a good national and foreign policy.
One student asked him what he'd do about the Iranian President, and he said nothing, because he had no idea. While that's not really good, at least he was honest. I think some of the presidential hopefuls don't really know what to do with the Iranian situation, so their solutions aren't as great as they could be.
Oh..yeah...and his campaign is sponsored by Nacho Cheese Doritos. But he can't mention them during his campaign. It's not proper funding...do we want a president whose campaign is sponsored by Doritos? the obesity epidemic could only get worse...
Anyways, his speech at Cornell was great! He liked to make fun of the sign language interpreters. I think that before they worked on that show, they had to brush up on words that they hardly ever use....
